Heads up Chicago, July 11-13th The Comedy Exposition of 2014 will be spreading throughout Lakeview, Wicker Park and Logan Square. One year ago tomorrow, local comedy pilot, The Laces, left the editing studio. It has since gone on to be one of six Chicago finalists in the NYTVF last Fall, has had two of its cast members become Second City Mainstage ensemble members and is currently being shopped around to major networks in hopes of getting sold. Tomorrow at noon, the pilot will premiere online live for the first time via Lucy Cooper Productions‘ site. Creator, director and editor, Leonardo Adrian Garcia, filled me in on the idea behind the pilot and where it’s off to next.
This Thursday through Sunday, saddle up for a slew of funny ladies. The Chicago Women’s Funny Festival will be underway at Stage 773 and they’re bringing in acts from coast to coast and beyond. This year you can expect to see sketch, improv, musical improv, puppets and a bit more stand-up that in the past. The Second City is so focused on increasing diversity in comedy that they have created an entire department towards these efforts.
