Three Chicagoians Join SNL Lineup
It has been rumored for the last week and a half and confirmed on Friday, the addition of three Chicagoians to the SNL cast. Tim Robinson, Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong have officially been added to the SNL cast in time for the season premier this Saturday, September 15th. All three have made a splash in the Chicago comedy community.
Tim Robinson, a personal favorite, is part of one of the best improv acts at iO: Cook County Social Club. He has also performed on the Second City Mainstage with Spoiler Alert: Everybody Dies and South Side of Heaven. Robinson always makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. He approaches improv head on, never backing down from an initiation and uses his strong character choices to bring light to every scene.
You might recognize Aidy Bryant from any of the three major theatres in Chicago. She has performed in Swear Jar, Mick Napier’s first sketch review at Annoyance. She’s performed on the Second City Mainstage for two revues including Sky’s the Limit (Weather Permitting) and We’re All in This Room Together and she also performs with iO house team, Virgin Daiquiri. She’s also in the ensemble for Baby Wants Candy.
If you haven’t run into Cecily Strong in the box office at iO, you may have noticed her on tour with Second City’s national company or perhaps as an understudy for Second City’s MainStage teams. She also has performed alongside Bryant as part of the same team, Virgin Daiquri, at iO in Chicago.
SNL has really stepped up it’s game. These three are powerhouses and are sure to be a welcomed addition to the SNL lineup. Thank you, Lorne Michaels, for providing us all easy access to watching these three on a regular basis, even if it means you swept them from our stages. I’ll be sure to tune in on Saturday night.
