A Little Insight into CollegeHumor

CollegeHumor.com is no laughing matter. Ok, well maybe it is, but that’s the whole point. Not only is this site filled with laughs, some of the gentlemen behind the laughs are hitting the road and making their way to Chicago’s UP Comedy Club next week. Check out a few things they have to say about the tour and their favorite spots in Chicago.
Jake and Amir, how did “Jake and Amir” get started?
Jake: We got started as coworkers working across from each other at CollegeHumor, we got along really well and eventually our joking around turned into filming silly videos. And we just never stopped. Eventually we got better cameras.
How long have you been working at CollegeHumor and doing the CollegeHumor Live shows?
Streeter: I’ve been working with CollegeHumor since I was a junior in college in 2004. We started doing the live shows in 2007, I think. They were mostly in or around New York City at that point but by 2009 we were going to campuses.
What can we expect from the show? What’s you’re favorite part of working together and how do all three of you play off of one another throughout the show?
Streeter: From the show I would expect to be laughing a lot. If you’re a Jake and Amir fan they have some fun callbacks to old episodes in their portion of the show. From me you can expect at least five minutes of making fun of some unfortunate kid who sat in the front row, plus half an hour of standup.
Jake: My favorite part about working together is getting to laugh with my friends. I think the people I work with are the best and it’s pretty cool someone pays me to hang out with them. During the show we like to poke fun at ourselves and also interact with the audience.
Amir: Laughing. Laughing makes me happy so I like to do it. And when we work together we laugh and so I’m happy. Throughout the show Jake and I hopefully make the audience laugh as much as we make each other laugh before and after the show.
What are you most excited about for this tour?
Streeter: I’m honestly excited to drive around with my two friends for so many days. I bet by the end of the tour we’ll have worked in a bunch of jokes we thought of in the car. I’m also excited to see some of these cities a little more than we usually can doing a college show. I have not spent nearly enough time in Streeterville as someone named Streeter should.
Jake: I’m mostly excited to meet our fans in the cities we’ve never performed in. Specifically Chicago. It will be our first time there doing a CollegeHumor live, and it will be really great to meet and hang out with our of our fans in and around your great city.
Amir: Eating new food and meeting new people. Specifically Deep Dish Chicago Pizza and Deep Dish Chicago People.
If you had one “teaser” sentence to promote this show, what would it be?
Streeter: After the show, everyone can touch Amir.
Jake: Everyone who comes gets free money! (Though that’s a lie.)
Amir: Because laughing is better than not laughing…
What Chicago restaurant or “hot spot” are you hoping to hit up while in town?
Streeter: Last time I was in Chicago I was on a fat tour of the city. We did Hot Dougs, Lou Malnati’s, Portillos, The Billy Goat and the Purple Pig. I would happily go back and eat till I’m sick at any one of those restaurants. The Purple Pig really did it for me, though. My wife liked this one dish they had so much I paid this kid in Chicago to buy ten orders of it, freeze it and mail it to me for her birthday.
Jake: We are still debating where we should go to get pizza. Hopefully our fans can point us in the right direction after the show.
Amir: I’ve never had Hot Dougs… seems like I should! Is there a four hour line RIGHT now?

Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld are the creators and stars of CollegeHumor’s longest-running series, Jake and Amir. The series has won a Webby Award for Best Comedy: Long Running Form or Series in 2010, and also earned Blumenfeld also the Best Individual Performance award that year. In 2012, the two were featured on Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” list, and this year, NY Mag’s Vulture named them among “The 50 Comedians You Should and Will Know” and Jake and Amir was included on Time Out New York’s list of the “50 Funniest Web Series.” They released their first half-hour episode, Jake and Amir: Fired, online and on DVD in 2011. Blumenfeld recently appeared in Louie and A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, and is the co-host Pranked on MTV along with CollegeHumor’s Streeter Seidell.
Streeter Seidell is a stand-up comic, writer, actor and Editor-at-Large of CollegeHumor. Named one of the “New Faces” at the 2011 Montreal Just For Laughs comedy festival, Seidell regularly performs standup throughout the country and is the co-host of Pranked on MTV along with CollegeHumor’s Amir Blumenfeld. He can regularly be seen dispensing his comedic wit on History Channel’s I Love the 1880s, MTVs Money From Strangers and VH1’s Best Week Ever. He has appeared on numerous TV shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live, and NBC’s TODAY Show, and on programs for CNN, Fuse and VH1, among others. Also an accomplished writer, Seidell co-wrote the CollegeHumor-branded book The CollegeHumor Guide To College, and has written articles that have been published by The New York Times, WIRED, Men’s Fitness and Mental Floss. His new book, White Whine—inspired by his long-time blog of the same name—is currently on-sale.
