Improv Explosion.
The 17th Annual Chicago Improv Festival had 204 ensembles, 95 shows, represented nine different countries at 21 different venues throughout Chicago. It was nuts. But it was grand. A big shout out to Chicago Improv Productions, Jonathan Pitts, Kevin Mullaney, Natasha Bhamla, Lisa Akroush and Jennifer McLaughlin for all their hard work and dedication to the success of this event. And thank you for allowing me to be a part of it.
I ended up attending five shows, saw twelve teams and wrote up six reviews. In case you haven’t seen them yet, here they are again:
- Trainwreck
- Jet Eveleth & Paul Brittain
- HOME: An Improvised Play
- Drama
- Messing With A Friend
- Horatio Sanz and The Improv All-Stars
My favorite shows of the festival were HOME, Solid Gold Duets and Messing With A Friend. All complete knockouts and all such perfect examples of why improv is an incredible art form. Seeing great long-form improv is like a hug around my heart, so thank you all for hugging my heart and thank you again for allowing me to be a part of this experience.
